13.11.15 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 13th Nov 2015 @ 9:47am

This week the children have been working hard in lIteracy with their descriptions of Alecina the sheep from the Katie Morag story.  There were some excellent descriptions including 'sparkling, white coat' and 'jet, black eyes'  Well done Sandymere children.  Also in Literacy the children have been writing instructions for the first time about how to clean Alecina the sheep. Two groups tried their hand at role play and acted out the steps using sequencing langauge - first, next, after that, finally. Some children wrote their own instructions using the same language.  It was a tricky task however they all worked very hard and soon got to grips with using these new words.  Perhaps they could practise using these words when giving instructions at home?  It would really benefit them.  We have ended the week with 'boxing up' the story in preparation for innovating our own version next week.

In Maths, we have begun looking at fractions and the children have learnt how halves and quarters are made from a whole.  They had great fun creating play doh biscuits and halving and quartering them.  This is something they could try out at home. Using the langauge when you halve an apple or quarter a pizza.

We are incredibly impressed with how the children are working hard on their handwriting.  We are now working on letters c, a, o, d,  Check out the link on our webpage for how to form these letters correctly.

c - around the curly caterpillar

a - around the apple and down the leaf

o - all around the orange

d - around the dinosaurs bottom, up his tall neck and down to his feet (they love this one!)

As always, any questions then please do ask!

Have a great weekend.
