13.11.16 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 13th Nov 2016 @ 3:24pm

It was good to be back and the children have been a pleasure.

This week we have looked at the significance of Remberance Day.  The children learnt about why and who we remember and significance of poppies.  They then created some wonderful poppy art which is proudly presented in the classroom windows.  The whole school observed a minutes silence on Friday too.

In maths we have explored 2D and 3D shapes and enjoyed playing the game ‘Guess my shape’.  This is something you could reinforce at home too.

In literacy we have created a wonderful story map for the text Toys in Space.  In spans the width of our classroom!  We have then begun the wonderful job of writing the story in our own words.  The children have worked SO hard on their stories and we look forward to completing them next week.  We have looked as class at ‘What makes a Year 1 writer’ and come up with a key list of points –

Capital letters

Finger spaces

Full stops

Using phonics to spell

Neat handwriting

We will keep revisiting this list EVERY TIME WE WRITE.

In other areas of the curriculum we have looked at some toys from our parents past.  Lily and Faye both brought in toys that their mummy’s played with.  Photos will be uploaded soon.
