17.11.16 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 17th Nov 2016 @ 9:25am

This week began with the launch of Anti Bullying week.  This year’s theme is the ‘Power of Good’.  We talked about difference and diversity and how we should celebrate people’s differences rather than highlight them in a negative way.  Within Sandymere class we talked about kind words and actions and the importance of good friendships.  The children had a wonderful understanding of the ingredients to make a good friend.  Well done children.

In Literacy we finished our retell of Toys in Space and WOW what wonderful stories we have produced.  The children are trying very hard to remember all the key basic that they need to be a Year 1 writer as well as use beautiful language. We are hoping to publish parts of our stories next week to show off our presentation too.

Homework for literacy this week is learning to spell the days of the week for a little progress test.

In maths we have been looking at repeating patterns using colour and shape.  They may enjoy this activity to practise at home. Flash player is required. http://resources.hwb.wales.gov.uk/VTC/simple_patterns/eng/Introduction/MainSession.htm

Also this week we thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Norton Priory.  We began the day by walking through the woods searching for statues made from a range of materials. Then we returned to the education room to create leaf art.  In the afternoon we were treated to a presentation all about toys from the past and the children were given the opportunity to ask questions and explore the toys themselves.  A huge well done to all the children for the behaviour.  Jackie, from the museum complimented the children on their excellent behaviour and impeccable manners. She was also impressed with how respectful they were to one another too, especially when it came to sharing the toys.  Fabulous Sandymere and Delamere!

The children will be writing a recount of their visit with Mrs Jones towards the end of the week.

We have also packed the week with phonics, PE, stories, Science and RE.  No wonder we are all feeling a little tired!

Well done Sandymere – see you next week.
