20.10.16 Sandymere Learning Update

What a wonderful week we've had!

We’ve had a few treats this week.  The first from fire service who came in to talk to the children about keeping safe around bonfires and fireworks and the second with the harvest festival.  I hope you enjoyed the Harvest festival. It was so lovely to see so many parents and family members in the congregation.  The children were fabulous and sang their hearts out – there are definitely some budding stars! I was very proud of them all.  Well done.

Within the classroom we began the week by following instructions, created by Year 2 children, of ‘How to make a Hoctopize’.  Each child now has their own Hoctopize puppet which they will bring home soon.  On Thursday/ Friday the children will be writing their own instructions using sequencing language first, next, then, after that, finally.

In maths we have worked hard on addition and finding patterns in numbers.  The children are finding this a little tricky so Mrs Jones has prepared some maths homework that will support further work on this.  Please do help your child to practise adding numbers to 10 together at home.  They can use counters, sticks, conkers or anything else to practically add, as well as using their fingers.  Thank you for your support.

In History we have looked at asking questions about our favourite toys using question marks correctly.  We have begun answering these questions too.  Also the children were able to interview Mrs Monson and I when we brought in our own childhood toys.  They were fascinated with my wind up radio and record player from the 1970s and Mrs Monson’s beautiful teddy bear that was a little older… shhhh! Perhaps you have some of your old toys that you take a photo of and send into school with your child?

Thank you for continuing to listen to your child read regularly.  Some children are receiving up to 5 raffle tickets a week! Don’t forget to practise the Year1 common exception words too which are in the front of their reading diary.

Phew! There has been lots more happening this week but I’d end up writing a novel.  Maybe your child will share the extras that I’ve not written about here.

See you next week (or this evening at parent’s evening)
