21.1.16 Sandymere Learning UPdate

Date: 21st Jan 2016 @ 10:20am

Good morning!

This week seems to have whizzed by and has been very eventful.  We started the week by boxing up the story Jack and the beanstalk and then started to plan our own versions. Today the children will begin writing their stories with Mrs Winder. I can’t wait to read their openers on Monday!

In maths this week, it’s all about 3D shapes. We had a super time exploring the different faces on a 3D shape and got a little messy printing them. The children were surprised to learn that a cylinder has two circles and a rectangle! They will continue their shape work and look at which shapes will roll. I’m pleased to hear the children have enjoyed their homework of looking for 3D shapes around the house. I love the idea that they are racing around the house with enthusiasm!

Tuesday brought heroes day and the children looked amazing in their costumes. Check out the blog for pictures of the children wearing their costumes with pride and carrying out role play in character.  There were some dramatic scenes of our doctors and nurses saving the injured and others searching for lesser known species with their binoculars. Well done Sandymere.

In computing we continued our work using Roamer and the children learnt a new word for programming – Algorithms.

If you want to know more about these then click on the link http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/z3whpv4

The children even had a go at creating their own algorithms and we are going to test them out next week.

Also this week we have continued our work on famous explorers and looked at which continents they explored.  The children have been introduced to the names of the seven continents and looked at these on a World map. Please feel free to practise these at home as some of the names are tricky. Perhaps play this fun game to practise. http://world-geography-games.com/continents.html

Phew! We have covered many other lessons this week also including science – what do we need to keep us alive? R.E and dance. We even managed to practise our own prayers in class collective worship.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
