26.1.17 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 26th Jan 2017 @ 10:23am

This week it’s been all about the dragons! We’ve now shared the story The Dragon Machine in its entirety. It’s a wonderful story and the children have really enjoyed creating story maps, orally retelling the story and have now planned their own versions! This morning the children have begun the exciting process of writing the opening to their story with Mrs Jones. You will see the finished pieces at the writing exhibition on 9th February. Also in Literacy we have worked on words using the suffix –ed. Perhaps you and your child could search for some in their reading books too?

  1. have completed our dragon eyes and discovered the wonders of brusho! Ask your child about the magic paint crystals. Inspired by The Dragon Machine we have designed our own dragon machines and created some wonderful technical drawings – they are simply fabulous. ll done children.

In maths we have been continuing to work on 10 more and ten less in our oral/metal maths and then begun to compare numbers. Asking questions such as ‘Which number is more than 33? Which numbers is less than 26?’

In PE the children have enjoyed exploring the apparatus with Mrs Smith and I must say I was very impressed with how sensible and careful the children were when moving along each piece. Some excellent balancing too!

This week we have also written our pledges on hearts ready for the main corridor display. The children chose either a personal pledge, a school pledge or a pledge about how to make the world a better place. There were some very thoughtful suggestions ranging from respecting one another to raising money for those less fortunate than us.

Thank you so much for egg boxes! We have about 10 now so please do keep sending them in as we need another 12 at least.

You will have seen some lovely work being sent home this week such as autumn collages, remembrance poppies and the moving toys. Please do chat to your child about these pieces and share their learning. I’m sure they’ll be displayed in pride of place somewhere in your homes.

May we take this opportunity to thank all the parents that came to the phonics afternoon today.  There was a great turn out and hopefully you all went away a little clearer on the mechanics of phonics.

That’s all for this week.

See you on Monday!
