29.1.16 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 29th Jan 2016 @ 1:20pm

We have a class of absolute super stars! The children have worked SO hard this week and have really shown us what skills they have. This is especially noticeable in Literacy where the children have been writing their own versions of Jack and the beanstalk.  It’s been a long process but one they have continued to rise to the challenge with.  We have focused heavily on using basic skills.

  • Capital letters

  • Full stops

  • Finger spaces

  • Phonics knowledge

  • Letter formation

There have been several children who have WOWED us with their gorgeous handwriting!

Also this week we have continued to use a number line in maths but this time for subtraction.  The children have quickly got to grips with this and have even started to use them independently.

In topic with have focussed a great deal on mapping skills.  I was SO impressed with how many remembered the names of the continents and we had fun using an interactive game to label them on the Interactive Whiteboard.  We have also looked at compass point NSEW and used the LearnPads to practise moving through a maze using compasses. Perhaps you could ask your child if they can remember the rhyme to help them remember NSEW. (Never, Eat, Slimy, Worms)

We are continuing to practise our letter formations and this week we have been looking at l, t and i.  Please use the handwriting tab on our class webpage to see how we form these.

In science the children have looked at winter and explored the school grounds looking for changes with the seasons.  They had great fun!

In P.E we explored our rocking and rolling skills further and used small apparatus to travel, jump, balance and roll too.

A busy week and quite possibly tired children!
