29.3.18 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 29th Mar 2019 @ 9:47am
Can you believe that your child has completed two terms in Year 1 already? This year seems to be whizzing by and what changes we have seen in your child so far this year! They are all now much more independent in their learning, they’re forming beautiful friendships and their academic work is simply super. We are so pleased with them all. You will be receiving your child’s end of term report today sharing with you their academic steps progress in Reading, Writing and Maths. Make sure you have a rummage in your child’s book bag for it – it may well be hidden amongst an array of delightful pictures and creations!
We are so pleased with how many children are moving through the book bands in their reading and this down to hard work from the children but also equally as important, the support from the parents and carers at home supporting their children. Reading regularly, enjoying books together and visiting the local library are all fabulous ways of helping your child to progress. Perhaps you could create a reading nook at home or in the garden this Easter to enjoy books together?
In maths this week we have begun to count in 2s and 5s. We have taken advantage of the lovely weather and taken to learning outside to jump along the 100 square on the playground to explore patterns in number sequences and sang and danced along to some fun counting in 2s and 5s songs too! We also used 2p and 5p coins to pay for items in our imaginary shop. Perhaps you could practise counting in 2s and 5s at home too?
We had so much fun in science this week by exploring our senses. We had a carousel of activities - to test our sight we played ‘guess the animal skin’, to test touch we had a feely bag of unusual items to guess, to test our hearing we had to guess the unseen instruments and then finally we tested our sense of smell by sniffing the contents of six different pots. There were some wrinkled noses at some of the smells! We didn’t test taste in school so perhaps this is something you could enjoy doing together at home over Easter?
Mrs Winder was impressed yet again with the children’s wonderful dancing in PE and was also very pleased that all children had their PE kits in school. Thank you for your support.
Your child has some song words in their book bags so they can practise their Easter service song ready for when we return in two weeks.
Have the most wonderful two weeks off and we will see you all very soon!
