29.9.16 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 29th Sep 2016 @ 10:59am

This week we have working hard on understanding how numbers are put together.  We have explored practically how we have tens and ones within a teen’s number.  Here is an example of what we have been doing in class.

In literacy we have continued to look at the story ‘Toys in space’ and the children have been building character profiles of the dinosaur, pink horse, robot and Wonderdoll.   They have looked at the feelings of the characters and discussed different emotions e.g Wonderdoll was feeling brave.  Pink horse had butterflies in his tummy.  We will continue our work on character profiles when we create Top Trumps style cards on Friday.

In topic we have continued to explore toys from the past and enjoyed sketching and labelling these.  We have also sorted old/new toys into a Venn diagram in the interactive whiteboard.  The children decided that some of the old toys we still use today therefore they could be placed in the overlap section of the Venn diagram.  Do you have any ‘old’ toys at home that the children could look at?

Next week the children will be bringing home a questionnaire about toys from the past and childhood games.  Look out for this in their book bag on Monday.

Sandymere enjoyed a fabulous Christian Values lesson on Wednesday led by George. Our class Christian Value is Thankfulness and George introduced the children to this value through a Bible story and encouraged the class to think about ways that they are thankful to God.  The children created some gorgeous prayer flags reflecting their ideas and these will be proudly displayed in the classroom. We would like to thank George and his team for such a wonderful lesson.

As handwriting is a whole school focus we have been working extra hard learning the new letters.  This week’s letter is cursive d.

Don’t forget to check out the link http://www.teachhandwriting.co.uk/continuous-cursive-letters-beginners.html to help your child.

That’s all for now!
