3.5.19 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 3rd May 2019 @ 4:26pm

What a lovely week we have had!  We have continued to explore the story Stanley’s Stick. This week we are exchanged the stick in the story for different everyday objects such wooden spoons, spatulas and sieves and gave them new leases of life.  The wooden spoon became an oar to row a boat or shovel to dig the soil – great imagination children!  Towards the end of the week we have innovated our own version of the story and created a story plan to help us to write our own stories next week.

In maths we have started our multiplication and division unit.  We have explored equal grouping and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.  The children are brilliant at counting in 10s but could do with more practise on counting in 2s and 5s.

We are very proud of the children’s art work this week.  We have been looking at self-portraits and experimented by drawing our own facial features including eyebrows and lips.  We used mirrors to look closely at our faces first … there were many surprised children when they looked at the different shapes of their eyebrows.  Some children didn’t even realise they even had eyebrows!  The finished portraits are proudly displayed in the classroom – you will be able to see these during parents evening in two weeks.

This week children have been ‘tinkering’ in computing by exploring how to use the Beebots controls.  They were so excited to get the Beebots out and begin basic programming.  We will be continuing to work on programming skills over the next few weeks.

Mrs Pile enjoyed a wonderful PE lesson with Sandymere class.  This week the children developed their skills in dance further and I spotted some beautiful and expressive moves during partner work. Well done!

We have enjoyed lots of yoga this week with our 'safe' card guiding us daily.  The childrne have enjoyed developing their yoga poses by taking part in Cosmic Yoga storytime.  Ask your child what it's all about!

Don’t forget we have a long weekend to look forward to.

See you all on Tuesday
