Welcome back and happy New Year to you all!

We hope that you all had a wonderful time and are looking forward to an exciting spring term.  We have lots planned for you.  This term we are looking at Explorers – a copy of our topic map is on the webpage.

So far this week we have checked all reading dairies and issued gold awards to those children and parents who have read together over the Christmas holidays – look out for your gold sticker in the reading diary.  We have also changed all children’s reading books and even ‘Benchmarked’ some children.  It is wonderful to see so many making progress in their reading!  Keep up the good work.

In maths we have been looking at the place value of numbers.  Looking at how a number is split into tens and ones.  Check out this link to practise this further.

It is tablet friendly too!

In literacy we have started to look at the story Jack and the beanstalk.  The children completed a ‘cold task’ on Wednesday and wrote the story with no support.  Some great efforts all round.  We will continue with this story over the next few weeks and explore the characters, settings and vocabulary with a view to writing our own version. They can watch the video by clicking this link/

Phonics has been whole class based this week and we will be starting our group phonics next week.  A phonics sound mat will be winging its way to you next week too.  Alternatively you can download a copy from our webpage.

As part of our class Christian Value work on Thankfulness we have looked at the Bible story of Jesus and the lepers and the children discussed how only one of the ten lepers said thank you.  We also looked at the importance of being thankful.  The children have produced some great work linking to this Bible story.  Look out for this in our gallery section soon.

P.E is all about developing our gymnastics skills further on a Tuesday and the children will be developing their skills in Dance with Mrs Winder on a Thursday.

In science the children have looked at the season winter and then will begin to look at animals in their habitats as the weeks continue.

We can’t believe we have covered so much already in just a few days!  You may well have some very tired children by Friday.

That’s all for this week.
