7.2.16 Sandymere Learning update

Date: 7th Feb 2016 @ 9:38am

Another busy week completed and a whole of exciting learning taken place. In literacy we have continued our jack and the beanstalk stories with a focus on using 'and' to join simple sentences. The children should be very proud of their efforts for showing such stamina in their writing! There has been a huge improvement in handwriting and basic skills. Thank you to all the parents who are supporting this at home too. Remember the basic skills are:

  • capital letters
  • full stops
  • finger soaces
  • using phonic knowledge to spell

In maths the children have started learning to count in 2,5,10. Many found this tricky so any extra support at home would be hugely helpful. Check out the links on the previous blogs for ideas.

Mrs Smith has been looking at animals from the Antarctic with the children and she was so pleased with their illustrations. We will be looking at the Antarctic further next week.

in PE the children have continued their work in gymnastics and showed great stretch and balance application when playing the games at the end of the session.

This week we have been checking how our children are progressing in phonics by carrying out a mini assessment. We are please with their progress so keep up the hard work at home too and practise the 40+ phonemes using the phonics chart.

The week ended with a spectacular bird of prey presentation.
