Wow! What a busy week we have had!
We are super excited about our English this week, as we have begun the process of writing our own version of The Lion Inside. After lots of discussions and democratic votes, we decided, as a class, that we would change the animlas in the story from the Lion and the Mouse to a Bear and a Hedgehog and set our stories in the deep, dark forest. We thought carefully about the characters and the setting and and we even headed outside for some inspiration to imagine what our forest would be like. We were absolutely amazed with the amount of descriptive language that the children came up with and can't wait to see them use it in their own stories. Maybe you could ask your child about thier story and, using the photos below, rehearse their story with them over the weekend.
In Maths we have continued our work on addition, and the children have shown real progress and an increased confidence in their recall of number facts. A big shout out to Harry, Oliver and Alexander who are all able to recall their number bonds to 10, Franklin, Joshua and Annie who can recall number bonds to 20 and Ruby who showed real confidence in adding by making 10, a very tricky skill! Well done! Miss Marsh was also really impressed with the children's Maths skills this week, so keep it up Sandymere, you are awesome!
In music this week the children have been learning about keeping a beat and Miss Pile was so pleased with how the children got on develpoing this skill. In Re we have been learning about the story of Mary Jones and her bible, perhaps the children could tell you her story. We thought about why she was so keen to have a bible and the challenges that she faced in getting one. We then looked at a selection of books, sorted them into categories and realised that the Bible is in a category all of it's own, because it is so special. Next week we will be learning about the different books of the Bible and exploring some stories that we know from the Bible and why the Bible is so special.
In PE this week, the children have continued to work on their Lion King dance and, I must say, it is really coming along! The children are making lots of lovely shapes and moving in a much more controlled way. I can't wait to see the final dance on Friday!
We hope that you have a fantastic weekend and look forward to getting on with our 'The Bear Inside' stories next week!
See you soon.
