8.10.15 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 8th Oct 2015 @ 9:46am

Good morning and welcome to your weekly learning update.  Before I start I am curious as to how many parents  this blog is reaching.  If you read the weekly learning updates would you be so kind as to write a quick note to let Mrs Winder and I know that you are accessing the updates please?  Thank you. smiley

This week the children have started to look at a new text in literacy called Katie Morag and the two grandmothers.  We have only looked at the map so far which shows the different settings from within the text such as a farm, the village and even a jetty.  The children have enjoyed imagining they have visited these settings and used their senses to create noun phrases.  Perhaps your child can share some of these at home with you?  The children are also planning their own story based on the settings this week.  I wonder what adventures they will create?

In maths we have continued our number skills with a focus on subtraction this week.  The children have worked hard using a range of practical materials to subtract from 15, 10 and 5.  They are also trying really hard with the more formal recording of such calculations.

In topic we have looked at the map of UK and had fun trying to fit a jigsaw of the Uk back together again.  Its not as easy as it looks!  We have also discussed how a map/atlas shows the land in green or brown and the water in blue.

The children developed their ball skills even further this week and focussed on improved control of the ball using their hands and their feet.  The temptation of wanting to kick the ball far and wide was tricky, but we managed to resist and practised dribbling the ball and passing to a partner.

In our class collective worship the children took time to refelect on Miss Harrisons assembly about Moses and how we show care.  The children recalled some key points from the Bible story and gave excellent examples of how and when we show care just like the story Miss Harrison shared.

Don't forget homework needs to be handed in by Friday 9.10.15. Thank you.

That's all for this week folks!
