Blakemere's Blog - 06.10.2019

Date: 6th Oct 2019 @ 12:49pm

Once again, we have worked extremely hard in Blakemere producing some excellent work.

In English, we have continued to explore the text Star of Hope, Star of Fear. The children are thoroughly enjoying learning about the different characters and writing from their point of view. We have continued to apply our mastery skill of expanded noun phrases, dialogue and subordination to all pieces of our writing. I was particulary impressed with the recounts that the children wrote this week.

In Maths, we have recapped and practised the formal methods for both addition and subtraction, explored vocabulary associated with these and then applied our knowledge to solving a variety of multi-step problems involving these operations. The commitment and determination the children showed whilst solving these problems were great. We also explored the counting on method for subtraction for money and number problems when the gap between the two numbers is not too large.

In topic, we continue to learn about Chester's rich history and how much of British history can be reflected in the are. We have now reached Medieval Chester and are looking forward to seeing what life would have been like during this time period and what elements of Chester today still reflect the Medieval period.

On Friday, the children in Blakemere undertook the first session of their play leader training. Their commitment and enthusiam was second to none and I look forward to completing the next stage of their training with them and setting up Play Leaders in school.

Can I say a HUGE THANK YOU to the six children who came to Blakemere's All Age Service at the Church this morning. You were fabulous and did a great job of sharing the message from Deuteronomy 16. Well done!!

Our secrect message for this week is to tell me three ANTONYMS for joyful. An antonym has the opposite meaning.

Remember to keep reading, practising your times tables and spellings.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and I shall see you in the morning.
