Blakemere's Blog - 10.06.2022

Date: 12th Jun 2022 @ 9:27am

Our first week back after the half term break has flown by and we have been very busy in Blakemere. We have undertaken many different activities and tasks this week.

In Maths, we have continued to explore 2d shape and be able to reason about them by using our knowledge and understanding of their properties: number and lenghts of sides and their angles. We also spent some time exploring whether a 2d shape can be described as regular or irregular. We then moved on to drawing 2d shapes from dimensions they were given. Children had to accurately measure the length of the sides aswell as using a protractor to draw the shape's angles accurately. Next week, we are going to move on to using our knowledge of 2d shapes to support us with exploring and understanding 3d shape.

In English, we have read more of our book King Kong and have now been introduced to Skull Island. We initially created a 'see, hear, feel, smell' grid to record our thoughts about the island and to capture what the book said. We then went on to use these descriptions to help us create a setting description. However this was a setting description with a twist. The children were challenged to write it in the form of a jungle narration based on the work of Sir David Attenborough.

In RE, we undertook our final lesson exploring the religion of Islam and why the Five Pillars are important to Muslims. We learnt about the final pillar: The Hajj. A specila pilgrimage that all Muslins try to go on once in their life. We explored the different stages and rituals and why these were important.

On Tuesday, we had the opportunity to visit the Cricual Crew where we took part in different workshops and activities around the theme of keeping yourself safe. We all had a great time.

Year 6's have also started to rehearse they Leaver's production which is going to be amazing! They now have their scripts with them so please can I ask that you support them to learn their words and songs?

SECRET QUESTION

What shape am I?

I have 8 sides. Four of my sides are 3cm long and the other 4 are 5cm long.

All my interior angles are different.

I am irregular.

See you all in the morning.
