Blakemere's Blog - 10.09.2021

Well Blakemere! What a busy first full week we have had! You have impressed me so much this week. I can't wait to see what next week brings.

In English, we have started to explore themes and vocabulary that are associated with our new book. We have come to the conclusion that the story we are going to be reading is going to based on a war, possibly WWII, due to the information, images and vocabulary we had explored so far. Here is is an example of some of our initial thoughts and ideas.

In Maths, we have been exploring the place value of large numbers - both 6 and 7 digit numbers. We have exploring how these numbers are made up, the value of each digit within the number, saying the number outloud and writing the number in words and partitioning them in different ways.

In guided reading we have started to look at our text - Beetle Boy. The children made some predicitions about what this story may be about just from looking at the front cover. We are intrigued to find out why the boy had a beetle on his head and why he looked more calm and curious rather than scared. Let's see what our next session tells us.

Before, we delve a little further into our topic of WWII, we have been exploring events that have happened both in Britain and around the World throughout time. We have been exploring when these events, what preceded them (one of last weeks homphones), what came after them and putting thme in order using dates. We have also been leanring that lots of events in history happened concurrently. This means that they were happening at the same time but in different parts of the world.

Finally, we had some excellent discussion in RE this week about what we thought 4 verse from the famous Sermon on the Mount might mean. The children gave some very mature and well though out responses. We shall be exploring each of these verse in more detail over the next few weeks.

Well done Blakemere!

SECRET QUESTION

What does concurrently mean in terms of historical events?

See you in the morning.
