Blakemere's Blog - 12.12.2021

Date: 12th Dec 2021 @ 8:33pm

Well Blakemere, we are down to what is our final week of a very busy Autumn term. I can't quite believe how fast this term has gone and what we have acheived together as a class.

Over the last week, we have begun to explore fractions in Maths and I was very impressed with the children's attitudes and approach towards this topic. We have started by recapping and exploring how to find equivalent fractions and also how to simplify them so that they are in their lowest form. Our topic of fractions will continue in the new year.

In English, we have explored and compared two poems about tigers looking at the vocabulary used, the poem's structure and how they were similar and different. We will be using the ideas from all the poems that we have explored to write our own poem about an endangered creature.

This week has also been slightly different as it was Interfaith Week at school. During the week, we have had the opportunity to virtually meet with people from different religions and world beliefs and values and learn more about them. We took part in session with a Quaker, Muslim and a Humanist. The children listened avidly in all sessions, made lots of notes to share their learning and asked the visitors lots of great questions. I was very impressed with their engagement in all sessions. We also spent some time looking at Christianity as a living world faith. We studied Christianity in Morocco and were shocked to find out that Christians have to keep their faith their a secret and are not openly allowed to practise Christianity. The children produced some excellent information leaflets and posters about their learning.

In geography, we have also spent some exploring how the UK is made up - countries, counties and regions.

A super week this week Blakemere and I am very much looking forward to next week.

See you in the morning.
