Blakemere's Blog 15.10.2021

Date: 17th Oct 2021 @ 9:44am

Blakemere class, I couldn't be prouder of how hard you have all worked this week. You have risen exceptionally well to every challenge that you have been presented with and have shown courage and determination when completing these.

In Maths, we have contonued to explore rounding any number to any amount. This initially proved a little tricky for some children, however over the week we have been looking at it, the children's confidence has improved, they are able to talk about how to round and what steps they need to take to acheive it and can easily change between rounding to different amounts. Excellent perserverance guys!! We also used the rounding rap to help us with this! Why not check it out?

In English, we have continued to explore our story of Star of Fear, Star of Hope. We have been taken on the journey of Helen and Lydia's friendship and have learnt about how Jewish people were discriminated against and treated unfairly because of their religion and beliefs. We have continued to explore the feelings, thoughts and actions of lots of characters and used evidence from the text to support our learning. We have also explored active and passive voice within sentences and how we can use this to show how an action has been done to someone.

Science focused on us setting up an investigation about tooth decay and the causes of it. We discussed what may cause tooth decay and created and investigation to help us to see if our predictions and ideas are correct. We are using hard boiled eggs to represent teeth and have selected 5 liquids that we are going to leave the eggs in for a week to see what happens.

In RE, we explored another famous verse from the Sermon on the Mount, looking at what they thought the verse to mean and how it is still important for Christians today :

Matthew 6:24 ‘No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money

The children discussed and felt that the verse was saying that we shouldn't make money into a God and that we should be rich in good deeds - showing compassion, being friendly, treating people with respect etc. rather than just focusing all our effort and attentions on money.

Finally, in our class collective worship, we explored Chrisitian Value of hope and listened to the story of Noah's ark. We identified how the value of true hope ran through the story and how on many occasions Noah had reasons to doubt, but he kept going because he had an unshakeable confidence in God.
