Blakemere's Blog 16.05.2021

What a busy week we have had in Blakemere once again. This week should have been the week of Year 6 SATS and it initially felt quite strange to not be undertaking them. However, as always, the children worked incredibly hard and have proved that they can achieve anything if they are willing to work at it.

Maths has focused on angles this week. We have been working hard to remember the names and properties of different angles that we may be presented with. We have also developed and improved our skills in using a protractor to measure angles as accurately as we can. We are now using our knowledge of angles to help us to work out missing angles either on a straight line or around a point. We will continue with this into next week.

In English, we are using the book Manfish which is all about the life and work of Jacques Cousteau. The children are enjoying learning all about his life and legacy. So far, we have used the information and evidence that we have been presented with to make predictions and draw inferences and to explire unknown vocabulary linked to the text. We have also used the text to help us think about his thoughts, feelings and actions.

Our topic of The Titanic is proving to be an interesting one. This week we learnt about some of the passengers who were on board the ship on that fateful night. We used lots of different sources of information to create a fact file about that person.

In Science, we have begun to explore classifying animals and the children worked in groups to classify a variety of animals based on their similarities and differences. We are going to build on this learning next week when we look further and the Linneaun classificiation system.

A huge well done to Blakemere's Excellent Examples  this week - MH, NL, JB and ID.

See you all in the morning,

Mrs M
