Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 01.05.2026

This week, our classroom has been filled with discussion, teamwork and plenty of moments where children have quietly shown just how brightly they can shine through their learning.

In English, we continued our work on King Kong, focusing on crafting a powerful action scene. The children impressed us with the care they took when planning and discussing their writing, especially when selecting precise verbs and adventurous vocabulary to create vivid images in the reader’s mind. They explored techniques for building suspense and tried hard to bring these ideas to life in their own writing, working with real focus and determination. We also spent time working with partners to revise and edit a piece of writing, carefully considering how language choices could be uplevelled. This collaboration allowed many children to share ideas, support one another and improve their work further.

In Maths, our learning remained rooted in the theme of measure. The children confidently explored the relationships between grams and kilograms, as well as millimetres, centimetres, metres and kilometres. They practised converting between units and applied their understanding to problem-solving activities. Our Year 6 children also showed great maturity and perseverance as elements of revision were woven into the week, approaching these tasks with a positive and determined mindset.

Our Geography learning took us around the world as we explored sustainability and investigated where different products come from. The children were curious about how our choices impact the wider world—a wonderful example of growing awareness and responsibility.

On Monday, we took part in an informative assembly led by the Canal and River Trust, where we learned about the dangers of open water and discussed important ways to keep ourselves and others safe. This linked perfectly with our recent PSHCE learning on water safety, helping to reinforce messages about looking out for one another.

To finish the week, Friday morning saw lots of excitement during our SPAG Deal or No Deal game. Working in teams, the children tackled questions on spelling, punctuation and grammar, showing excellent co-operation, resilience and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see so much learning taking place alongside so much laughter.

We are very proud to celebrate:
