🌟 Weekly Blog 🌟

This week has been a little different, with many of our Year 6 children attending their transition visits to high school. It has been wonderful to welcome them back and hear all about the exciting experiences they have enjoyed. They have certainly been letting their lights shine as they have embraced new opportunities, met new people and shown confidence in unfamiliar surroundings. I am also looking forward to hearing from the children who have been on four-day transitions and learning more about their time at their new schools.

In English, we explored how to create complex sentences using relative clauses and parenthesis to add extra information. The children practised constructing sentences on strips before applying their learning in their books. All of our sentences were linked to our learning about tigers. As we found out more about these incredible animals, we used our spirituality concept of Windows and Mirrors. Our learning acted as a window into the wider world, helping us discover more about one of God's amazing creatures, whilst our mirrors encouraged us to reflect on our own thoughts and feelings about why tigers are endangered and what responsibility we have to care for creation.

In Maths, we explored perimeter, investigating a range of methods for calculating it. The children were challenged to select their preferred method and explain their reasoning. It was wonderful to see them letting their light shine through resilience, perseverance and confidence as they shared their mathematical thinking with others and respectfully listened to different approaches.

In Science, we began learning about adaptation and how animals have changed over time to become better suited to their environments. This learning provided another window into the wonders of the natural world, helping us appreciate the incredible diversity of life and the unique ways animals are equipped to survive.

In DT (Cooking and Nutrition), we explored the different nutrients our bodies need to stay healthy, why they are important and which foods provide them. We also discussed allergies and intolerances. This gave us an opportunity to look through a door into how we can take positive action by making informed choices about our health and showing consideration for others who may have different dietary needs.

Throughout the week, the children have continued to let their light shine through their learning, curiosity and thoughtful reflections. Whether looking through windows into the wider world, using mirrors to reflect on their thoughts and feelings, or opening doors to new opportunities and actions, they have demonstrated our school vision beautifully.
