Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 03.12.2021

Date: 5th Dec 2021 @ 10:35am

Blakemere have continued to work hard this week in all areas of their learning. We spent some time at the beginning of the week in history exploring why the Battle of Britain was seen as a significant turning point within the war. The children explored many different reasons and identified why these helped to stop an invasion of Germany during the Second World War.

In Maths, we have continued to explore division. The Year 5 children continued to develop their confidence and knowledge in dividing numbers with up to four digits by a 1 digit number. They then went on to use this method to help them to solve a variety of word problems and reasoning challenges to do with division. The Year 6 children this week, accpeted the challenge of exploring and learning the long division method. I was extremely impressed with their determination to learn this method and then their application of it within their Maths work. The children coped well with the number of different steps that it includes to become confident with the method by the end of the week. By Friday, we had also started to explore BIDMAS and how we use this to solve calculations with more than one operation in them.

In English we have been focusing on poetry linked to endangered animals and in particular a tiger this week. We have explored the poem 'A tiger in a zoo' by Leslie Norris and explored how the poet contrast the tiger's experience in a cage to in the wild. We rehearsed this poem in groups and performed it in front of the class.

In Science this week, we have explored the lungs as part of the circulatory system and identified the importance of these. The children then drew the lungs and labelled the key parts.

See you in the morning.
