Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 04.02.2022

Date: 6th Feb 2022 @ 8:31am

Once again, we have been working incredibly hard in all areas of our learning.

In English, we are continuing to use the book 'Can we Save the tiger?' as the basis for our work. We have this week beeon expliring modal verbs and using these to write a paragraph from a farmer in India's point of view, we have continued to explore parenthesis and how we can add this into our sentences through using brackets, commas and/or dashes. The children were then challeged to explore a report about rhinos and improve the text by adding in relative clauses and parenthesis, which they did brilliantly at. Finally, we selected an endangered animal to research to produce our first report about.

Decimal numbers has continued to be the focus in Maths this week. We have looked at the place value of numbers with uo to three decimal places, we have compared and ordered them and added and subtracted them. We have also undertook some different challenges involving deciamls and used our knowledge and problem solving skills to solve them.

Geography has focused on exploring the different types of settlements and how the land used. We have looked at factors that influence land use and compared maps which show how land use has changed over time. THis week we shall begin to explore our new topic of Disasters and Truimphs. In terms of truimphs we shall be looking at the Civil Rights Movement and in terms of disasters, we shall be exploring humans impact on our world.

In RE, we have been exploring how Christian's aim to share the world's resources. We have explored the worl of two  different Christian groups and how they try to achieve this. On Friday, we explored a bible passage we talks about Creation and what God intended Christian's to do. We finished off the lesson exploring the BIG Question ' How should people rule/protect the world? I was blown away with the children's thoughts, comments, ideas and how they engaged in this discussion in a mature way. I am very much looking forward to our next one.
