Blakemere's Weekly Blog 05.11.2021

Date: 7th Nov 2021 @ 1:26pm

What a busy, but great first week back we have had in Blakemere.

We are continuing to work hard on our story ‘Star of Hope, Star of Fear’ in English. We have learnt about and explored how the Jewish people were treated during the second World War by the German soldiers. The children have shown such maturity when discussing and exploring a dark period of history. We have talked about in detail how people should not be treated unfairly because of their religion or beliefs.

This week, in English, we have created expanded noun phrases for an image, which we shall use in our writing of a diary next week and created a retelling of one of the scenes from our story with the aim of including our mastery keys. Why not ask your child about what skills we have been mastering in English during this unit?

In Maths, we have been developing our confidence in multiples and finding common multiples and the least common multiple. Our times table knowledge has definitely come in handy here.

In RE, we have started a new unit focusing on how different Christians see and describe God. The children were keen to share their thoughts and ideas about God and we explored 3 words that are used to describe God. Omni means all. Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipotent.

On Wednesday, as part of Parliament Week, we were also lucky enough to have a virtual tour of the Houses of Parliament and meet with our local MP, Edward Timpson, over Teams. We asked him lots of questions about his job as an MP and he gave some great answers.

As you are aware, Blakemere have been inspired to action by collecting crisp packets for the Macclesfield Crisp Packet Blanket Project, who then make blankets for the homeless. On Friday, Sue, who runs the project, came to school to tell us all about the project and how she makes the blankets. We were also lucky enough to have a go at making a blanket. This is also part of our whole school initiative towards becoming plastic free at school by trying to eliminate single use plastic. To date, we have collected over 500 crisp packets, which means we have not only helped the charity to make more blankets but we have also stopped this much plastic from entering landfills. Over the next couple of weeks, we shall start to sort and prepare the crisp packets to give to the charity.

A huge thank you to the seven children from Blakemere who came along to church this morning and delivered our thoughts and ides in response to the sermon Eddie was giving. Great job.

SECRET QUESTION

We learnt that God cam be described as omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient. What do these mean?

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and I shall see you tomorrow.
