This Week’s Learning Journey
What a productive week we’ve had in class!
English
We’ve been diving into the fascinating life of Olaudah Equiano, an enslaved African from the 1800s whose story has inspired our writing. Using his experiences as a starting point, we explored different sentence types to make our writing richer and more engaging. This included:
- Complex sentences using subordinate conjunctions and clauses
- Adding relative clauses for extra detail
- Using parenthesis to include additional information
We then put all these skills together to create an informative paragraph about Equiano. The children showed great creativity and attention to detail—well done!
Maths
We began the week with BIDMAS (ask your child what this means!) and then moved on to fractions, focusing on finding and understanding equivalent fractions. The class worked hard to master these concepts and apply them in problem-solving.
Science
Our topic moved on to electricity. We explored how electricity is generated and discussed the difference between renewable and non-renewable sources. The children became “electricity experts” by writing their own informative paragraphs—fantastic effort all round!
Geography
We started looking at world population—what it means and how it varies across the globe. Using maps, we identified countries with the highest population density and those with sparse populations. We’ll continue developing our atlas skills, learning how the shape of countries can help us locate them.
Nativity Preparations
We’ve been working hard rehearsing our script for telling the Nativity story and practicing our song for the Christmas performance. The excitement is building!
