Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 06.02.2026
Date: 6th Feb 2026 @ 3:37pm
We’ve had another fantastic week of hard work, creativity and handsโon learning. The children should be really proud of everything they’ve achieved!
๐ English
This week, we have been writing and editing our Windrush reports, and they are absolutely fabulous! The children have included a wealth of information alongside the key features we have been focusing on in class. I’m really looking forward to displaying parts of everyone’s work—each report is something to be proud of!
๐ข Maths
Our focus in maths has been all about decimals. We have been:
- Ordering and comparing decimals
- Dividing to find decimal remainders
- Multiplying and dividing decimals in different contexts
The children have shown great determination in tackling these more challenging concepts—well done, everyone!
๐ Geography
We completed our fieldwork in the local area this week, exploring how population impacts two contrasting parts of Winsford: Delamere Street and Knights Grange.
The children:
- Tallied the number of vehicles
- Interviewed members of the public
- Investigated levels of litter
- Recorded noise pollution
They worked brilliantly as geographers and collected some excellent data.
โก Science
We finished our unit on electricity by carrying out an investigation into whether the number of bulbs or wires in a circuit affects bulb brightness. The children used great scientific thinking and worked safely and sensibly throughout.
We rounded off the unit with an endโofโtopic quiz, where the children impressed me with their knowledge and understanding.
๐จ Art
This week we also began our new mixed media art unit. We explored how artists use a range of materials to create landscapes and cityscapes and compared the work of two very different artists. The children enjoyed discussing techniques and are excited to begin their own artwork soon.

Gentle Reminders for Home Support
To help your child continue to make great progress, please support them with the following:
๐ Reading at Home
Reading has dropped recently.
Children must read at least four times a week—no excuses!
If you need help choosing appropriate books, I am always happy to make recommendations.
Reading books should be in school every day.
๐ธ Times Table Rockstars
Short, regular practice works wonders—just a few minutes a day can make a big difference.
โ๏ธ Weekly Spellings
Please ensure your child is practising their spellings throughout the week.
๐ PE Days
PE days are Tuesday and Friday.
Please ensure PE kits are in school.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
We’re looking forward to another exciting week of learning ahead! ๐
