Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 08.11.2024
Date: 10th Nov 2024 @ 8:02pm
We have had a good first week back after the half term and achieved lots this week.
English
At the beginning of the week, we spent some time proof-reading our final piece of work for the Water tower with our proof-reading partners. For the rest of the week, we used our English lessons to complete our mini topic on Remembrance.
Remembrance
This week, we have been exploring the enquiry question ‘How does Chester Remember?’ for our mini topic on Remembrance. We firstly explored why we hold Remembrance and when and where it originally began. We then moved on to exploring different monuments and plaques within the city centre of Chester which are used as symbols of Remembrance. We finally spent some time learning about a soldier from the Cheshire Regiment, Hugh Beatty) that sadly lost his life during the First World War. We produced some beautiful Remembrance booklets.
Maths
In Maths, we have explored factors, prime numbers to 100, squared and cube numbers and recapped on the short method of multiplication. We are all now seeing the importance of knowing our times tables fluently as it helps within these areas of Maths.
Science
This week, we have explored how micro-organisms are living things. The children were tasked with creating their own fungi, bacteria or virus.
RE
We have started a new unit within RE based around Christianity. The children will be exploring the following enquiry question – Does Science disprove Genesis?
Well done
A huge well done this week to Roey for winning the raffle ticket prize and to Ava K, Holly, Roey, Phoebe and Eva C for having their work selected for Excellent Examples. They will bring this work home with them next Friday to share with you. Finally, a huge well done to Tate and Joshua for being selected as Worker of the Week in Blakemere by their peers.
Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
What city did we explore last week for Remembrance?
What can you do at home?
- Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day.
- PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged.
- Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
- Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
- Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. We will be continuing with the words sent out last week and will have the spelling check for these on Monday 18th November. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.
