Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 11.02.2022

Date: 13th Feb 2022 @ 8:56am

Wow! What another great week we have had in Blakemere. Lots achieved and lots to be proud of.

In English, we have continued to explore the test 'Can we Save the Tiger?' which focuses on the plight of many endangerd creatures. Each chils had to pick one endangered specie to produce an information report about - Kakapo bird, polar bear, partula snail or the black rhino. These reports included information about the animal's appearance, habitat and diet whilst also exploring why the creature was endagnered and what was being done to help conserve it. The children also had to include our mastery keys into their reports. Some excellent reports produced about these animals.

Maths has focused on fraction and decimal equivalents this week. We have been exploring the relationship between the two and different strategies we could use to help find them. This help as we move into percentages next week.

In Science, we have set up our final investigation exploring the impact of exercise on our heart rate. The children had to establish an enquiry question to work towards proving or disproving, We will complete this recording of this investigation this week and the children will look at different ways to record thier results.

We shall be creating printing designs in art using impressed printing techniques. We explored a vareity of images of coral and shells up close using a view finder to help us to sketch the intricate pattern designs. We then explored which would be easy or hard to recreate. This will help us when we move forward to creating our own printing design.

This week has been Children's Mental Health Week we the theme of growing together. Earlier in the week, the children explored themselves and how they coan support each other with Mrs Conlon and then on Friday afternoon we downed our usual tools and created our own dragons eyes from clay. The children explored and drew a selection of dragon eyes before designing their own and finally sculpting it out of clay. The children produced some beautiful peices of work which are below.
