Blakemere's Weekly Blog -11.11.2022

Date: 13th Nov 2022 @ 7:13pm

What a fantastic week we have had in Blakemere this week!

It began with us undertaking our mini local history topic which focused on 'How does Chester Remember?' Throughout the week, the children have explored many different sources of information to help them find out about how Remembrance is undertaken in the city of Chester. The children have produced their own history booklets, which includes their work for the week. We discussed and explored how and why Remembrance Day came about, we looked at different photographs from Chester showing how they remember, we explored the famous poem 'In Flanders Field' and discussed what the first verse meant and then finally we produced a biography of a soldier from Chester who lost his life during World War One. Such beautiful pieces of work have been produced this week.

In Maths, we have explored and learnt about Prime Numbers, Square and Cubed Numbers and then fianlly moved on to the short method of multiplication. The children have shown a good understanding of all the areas of Maths explored this week.

On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to visit the Winsford Academy to take part in a heart dissection lesson. I was incredibly impressed with how our children conducted themselves during this lesson. We had the opportunity to explore a heart and see the parts that we had learnt about in our Science lessons. Some children even held the heart! There were also some pale faces at different points in the lesson, including mine, but we all learnt lots.

In Computing, we continued with our collaborative learning project. The children had to communicate with each other to complete a project together ionline n a group, but only through the chat features of the programme. We all agreed that this was harder than we had all initially thought it would be. There were some great projects produced though.
