Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 13.09.2024
Date: 13th Sep 2024 @ 3:55pm
What a gorgeous week we have had together in Blakemere and I am incredibly impressed again with the children's attitude and focus to their work. This has lead to us achieving many things this week.
English
We have started our new book, The Watertower by Gary Crew and have started to explore some of the text. We have found definitions for some of the vocabulary within the text, we have explored synonyms and antonyms to build a vocabulary bank of words to support our writing, we have made predictions had created expanded noun phrases for an image from the text.
Maths
In Maths, this week, we have explored the place value of 6 and 7-digit numbers. We have partitioned them, written them in words, ordered and compared them and solved some problems involving these numbers. The children have demonstrated confidence in all these areas so a huge well done. We also completed some maths outside hunting and comapring numbers
History
We have started our history topic focusing on the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 and why this was, and still is so significant. We explored the key events leading up to and involving the sinking of the Titantic and created our own timeline of these events.
Science
We have started to explore different species in Science and looked at how these animals could be groupd based on their similarities and differences. It was impressive to hear the scientific langauge that the children were using and they aare going to use this knowledge next week to create a classification key with these animals.
Blakemere School Council
This week, the children have been encouraged to write a speech as to why they should be our class representatives on the school council. Mia and Franklin, our current school councillors, lead this process and this afternoon the children shared their speeches with the class and then we carried out a secret ballot where the children voted for their Year 5 and Year 6 representative. We are pleased to announce that Phoebe and Joshua have been selected to represent our class this year. I do want to say a huge well done to all our children who shared their speeches as they were fantastic.
Please take a look at the bottom of the page as I have attached some photographs of our week's activities.
A huge well done to Phoebe for winning the raffle ticket prize this week and to Annie, Joshua. Zac and Tate for having their work selected for excellent examples. They will bring them home next Friday to share with you.
Secret Question
