Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 13.12.2024

Date: 15th Dec 2024 @ 9:01am

What a busy week we have had in Blakemere!

English
This week, we have continued to explore the text ‘Of Thee I Sing’. We have learnt about some inspirational and what they have achieved throughout their lives. We then used the information about these people to explore and create both complex and compound sentences.

Maths
We have continued to explore fractions this week and have focused on converting improper fractions to mixed number and vice versa. We have then explored comparing fractions with different denominators and what method we can use to achieve this.

DT
This week we have started to think about our final design for our toy using a cam mechanism. The children produced an annotated sketch of what their toy will look prior to going into product development next week.

Geography
We have started to explore the geography of the UK and how it is made up. This week we have explored the similarities between the four countries of the UK.

Christmas
Christmas has well and truly come to OSJ now. Our class advent calendar is in full swing, we have continued to rehearse our song and script for the nativity, and we had the Christmas Extravaganza. We also went to the pantomime on Thursday, and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Well done
A huge well done this week to Lexi-May for winning the raffle ticket prize and to Ava K, Joshua, Kai, Annie and Lexi-May for having their work selected for Excellent Examples. They will bring this work home with them next Friday to share with you. Finally, a huge well done to Tate, Annie, Finley and Zac for being selected as Worker of the Week in Blakemere by their peers.

Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
Name the four capital cities of the countries in the UK.

What can you do at home?
•    Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day.
•    PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
•    Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
•    Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
•    Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. We will have our spelling check on Monday and then new words will be sent home in the New Year.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
