Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 14.06.2024

Date: 16th Jun 2024 @ 11:19am

What another busy week we have had in Blakemere with lots of different things being acheived.

English

We are now on the final piece of writing for our book King Kong where the children are retelling the story ending but writing it from the viewpoint of Ann. The story is written as a flashback. The children are working hard to include all of the mastery keys they have been learning within their writing. I am very much lookin forward to reading the finished pieces.

Maths

In Maths, we have continued our shape unit focusing on regualar and irregular 2D shapes and how we can identify these from their sides and angles. The children began by sorting these shapes and then went on to reason about the properties to help them to determine whether they were regualr or not.

Science

In Science, we have started a new unit focusing on living things and their habitats. We recapped on the five animal groups - mammals, reptiles, fish, birds and amphibians and started to group animals based on their features. The children asked lots of well thought out and detailed questions, in which we need to research together the answers. Well done Blakemere.

Finally, the Year 6 children are progressing well with their Leavers' Performance but they do a need a little help from you to learn their lines. It would be fabulous if you could support your child to learn their lines and who comes before them in the play so they are ready during rehearsals.

Secret Question

Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:

Name one of the five animal groups we explored in Science.

What can you do at home?

  • Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book and diary in school with them every day and having the correct PE kit in school. PE is on a Monday and Tuesday for Year 5 children and Tuesday for Year 6.
  • Year 6 children need their swimming kit and goggles every Monday.
  • Reading diaries are checked every Tuesday so it is imperative they are in school.
  • Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed.
  • Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps. Passwords can be found in your child's reading diary.
  • Practise the list of spellings that are sent home.
  • Year 6 children need to be learning their script and songs for their Leavers' Performance. All children need to be off script by the 26.06.2024.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
