Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 14.10.2022

Date: 16th Oct 2022 @ 10:31am

Another week completed in Blakemere and the weeks do seem to be flying by at the moment. It only seems like we started together not long ago and now we are on the count day to half term.

Lots has been achieved by everyone this week. In English, the children have written some excellent character descriptions for Spike and Bubba. Two of the characters from our book. The children were tasked with including our mastery keys of expanded noun phrases, subordination and reltavie clauses within their writing. By the end of the week, we recapped on punctuating direct speech, which we will continue to look at next week.

In Maths, we continued to explore negative numbers and solving problems involving them. It was great to see the children's confidence grow during this and apply what they had learnt to different questions. We ended the week with addition and estimation.

On Friday, in Science, we looked at the third part of the circulatory system, the blood. We looked at the different parts of it and the different functions thos parts have. We created a visual representation of blood on the board together and the children were then encourage to create a storybaord about the kife of blood within our body. Next Friday, we are going to continue along the theme of blood by creating our own.

In History, we have continued to undertake work which will help us to answer our question of 'Why was the Titanic so significant?' The children used different sources of information to collect facts about different aspects of the Titanic. This information will be used next week to enable the children to create a fact file about the magnificent ship.

Friday afternoon was finished off by our class recreating how data packets are transferred across the internet. The children had to create a message and split it into packets of data, which travelled from one place in our classroom (IP address) to another (a different IP address) and then the children had to put the message back together. It took us a couple of attempts to complete this smoothly.

SECRET QUESTION
When did the Titanic set sail?

Enjoy the rest of your day and I will see you in the morning.
