๐ A Wonderful Week in Blakemere! ๐
We’ve had a fantastic and busy week in Blakemere, filled with creativity, curiosity, and great effort from the children. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
โ๏ธ English
In English, the children stepped back in time and explored life as a child travelling from the Caribbean to England aboard the Empire Windrush. They wrote in role, reflecting on the thoughts and feelings someone their age might have experienced on such a lifeโchanging journey.
We also worked in partners to edit and improve our writing—excellent collaboration all round!
โ Maths
This week’s focus was all about fractions. We tackled:
- Adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators
- Solving word problems involving fractions
- Adding mixed-number fractions
- Multiplying fractions
- Finding fractions of amounts
The children showed real perseverance—well done!
๐ฌ Science
Our science lessons were electrifying!
We explored electrical conductors and insulators, building circuits and testing different materials to see which ones allowed the bulb to light. The children discovered that metal makes the best conductor and had great fun experimenting.
๐ Geography
We continued our work on migration, learning about the push and pull factors that encourage people to leave or move to a different country. The children shared thoughtful ideas during our discussions.
๐ก Design Technology
In DT, we completed our market research and found that the ChairโoโPlane and Ferris Wheel were the most popular fairground rides.
As a result, the class has voted to build their own ChairโoโPlane model—and we’re now (very!) patiently waiting for the kits to arrive. Exciting times ahead!
๐ Let’s Celebrate!
A HUGE well done to this week’s stars:
๐ Excellent Examples:
Zac, George, Alice, Kira, Ernie, Finley, and Connie
๐ต Times Table Rockstars:
Kobe, Danielle, and Adelaide
๐ Workers of the Week:
Alyssia, Marley, Finley, and Toby
We are so proud of you all!
๐ Gentle Reminders
To help your child continue to progress, please support them with the following:
๐ Reading at home
Reading has dropped significantly recently. Children should be reading at least four times a week—no excuses!
If you need help choosing books, I’m always happy to recommend titles.
๐ Reading books must be in school every day.
๐ธ Times Table Rockstars
Little and often is best! A few minutes a day makes a big difference.
โ๏ธ Weekly Spellings
Please ensure regular practice at home.
๐ PE Days:
Tuesday and Friday – kits must be in school.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Have a fantastic weekend! ๐
