Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 16.06.2023

Date: 18th Jun 2023 @ 8:32am

What a busy couple of weeks the children in Blakemere have had since returning from half term. The week before last saw the majority of our children take part in the Year 5 and 6 residential to the Conway Centre. We all had an amazing time and the weather was fabulous. It was wonderful to see the children taking part in all the activities and challenging themselves. Photographs will follow shortly in their own Conway Blog.

English

This week has been just as busy! We have planned our final retell of our book, The Selfish Giant and we shall be writing our story from the point of view of the tree. in the garden. We shall be using personification to bring the tree to life as we write the events from his perspective.

DT

The children have spent two days this week carrying out their DT food project. They had previously researched, planned and designed their recipes for their cous-cous salad and for their bread and this week they made them. It was wonderful watching the children carry out all the different steps for making their food products. We were all particularly impressed with how the bread turned out. Returning from swimming to see the dough had risen and then watching the children make their creations, whether it be a pin wheel and rolling their dough, plating their bread or creating interesting shapes was a pleasure.

Science

We started to explore the work of Sir Isaac Newton in Science this week and his theory of light. We also looked at how another scientist named Robert Hooke tried to refute his work.

Finally, the Year 6 children have been working incredibly hard on rehearsing their Year 6 play.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
