Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 17.03.23

Date: 18th Mar 2023 @ 7:47pm

What a great week we have had in Blakemere this week. The children have worked incredibly hard and we have achieved many things.

English

We started a new book within our English lessons this week. This book will help us over the next few weeks to learn about relative clauses and use them within our writing to add extra information; to use and punctuate direct speech accurately in order to tell the reader something about the character or move the action forward; to understadnt he level of formality required within the stroy and apply that to their own writing; to understand what the passive voice is and to be able to use it within their writing and to use expanded noun phrases to describe nouns precisely. During this week, we made used images and vocabulary from the text to make predictions and draw inferences about what we thought the book might be about. We had some excellent predictions and inferences made, It was also lovely to see and hear the children making links between the images they have seen and the vocabulary they were presented with,

Maths

We have continued to find percentages of amounts this week and then moved on to solving word problems. I was incredibly impressed with how hard the children worked at finding different percentages of different amounts and how well they had remembered the different methods that they needed to support their learning.

Science  Week - Making Connections

We took a break this week from our usual Science lessons to take part in Science Week. The theme for this year's Science Week was making connections encouraging children to see the links between different elements of their lives. We carried out an activity which explored our own finger prints. We talked about waht finger prints do and whether any finger prints were the same. We took three different samples of our finger prints using different materials to see which one would give us the best finger print.

Geography

We continued to explore the continent of South America this week during our geography lesson. We remided ourselves of the countries that make up the conitnent of South America and then focused our attention today to learning about the country of Brazil and its human and physical features. We explored what the weather and climate was like, the famous landmarks, the phyiscal and human features as well as general inforamtion about the country. Children work with partners to research and prepare an information booklet all about the country of Brazil.

Keep doing what you are doing Blakemere because you are all amazing,

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
