Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 17.10.2025

Date: 17th Oct 2025 @ 3:47pm

It’s hard to believe how quickly the weeks are flying by — half term is just around the corner!

In English, the children have been busy writing diary entries in role as characters from our class book. They’ve worked hard to sequence and recount events accurately, and we’ve also explored how to use expanded noun phrases to add detail and description to our writing.

In Maths, we’ve focused on formal written methods for addition and subtraction, working with both whole numbers and decimals. We also introduced the counting-on method, which is especially useful when subtracting close amounts in money problems.

Our History lessons have taken us back to World War II, where we’ve been learning about the key events of the Battle of Britain. The children created timelines to show the sequence of events, and we’re looking forward to diving deeper into this topic over the next couple of weeks.

In Science, we’ve been exploring the circulatory system and created detailed scientific drawings of blood vessels. The children showed great focus and care in their work.

This week, we also began looking at what it takes to be a successful Play Leader. The children discussed the skills and attitudes needed to lead games and activities for our Key Stage One pupils, and have started planning some exciting games to try out soon.

We’d like to celebrate some fantastic achievements this week:

  • Jaydan for having his name picked out of the tin.
  • Zac, Vicky, Sophia, and George for having their work selected as excellent examples.
  • Zac again for being chosen as Worker of the Week by his peers.
  • Danielle, Alyssia, and Adelaide for being our Times Table Rockstars!

Reminders:

  • PE kits are needed on Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • Reading should be happening regularly and recorded each week.
  • Times Table Rockstars is a great way to support fluent recall — little and often is best!
  • Spelling practice is also important — short, regular sessions make a big difference.

We’re looking forward to another exciting week ahead.

Have a lovely weekend!
