Blakemeres Weekly Blog - 18.03.2022

Date: 20th Mar 2022 @ 10:18am

What another great week we have had in Blakemere.

We began to explore our new book in English, however the children are yet to know the name of the text. We firstly explored some of the vocabulary from the text and what these different words may mean. The children began to draw initial and thoughts ideas about our book through this vocabulary. We then completed a notice, wonder and infer task based on one image from the text. The children made some excellent predicitions and inferences about the text just from the information that they were presented with. We will contonue to explore our new book next week and I shall tell them the name of it on Thursday.

We have now completed our work on percentages and have moved on to exploring units of measure and converting between them - g, kg, ml, l, mm, cm, m and km. The children used their knowledge of multipying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 to support them in converting between different units of measure and them applied their knowledge and understadning of this to solving a variety of different word problems.

In Science, we explored the components of an electrical circuit. We leanrt their names and how we draw them scientifically. This will help during next week's lesson when we start to build electrical circuits to test different materials to see whether they are electrical conductors or insulators.

Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring different coral and shell patterns in art. We have been replicating these designs as the starting point for our printing topic. We then picked our favourite design to amke a print from. We quickly learnt the importance of modifying and simplifying our designs, especially when it came to creating them in the printing foam blocks. We have now began to make the prints from our template, so watch this space to see our beautiful designs. We will hopefully use our designs to produce some shell and corall print wrapping paper.

The children have also taken part in a Pop up art festival in Winsford around the theme of shadows. The children created some beautiful shadow art work, which I will upload next week.

As always Blakemere, I am super impressed with everything you are doing.
