Another Wonderful Week in Blakemere!

It’s been another fantastic week in Blakemere, and I continue to be so impressed with the children’s enthusiasm and engagement across all areas of learning. It truly feels like we’ve always been a class together .

In Maths, we’ve been diving deeper into 6- and 7-digit numbers, learning how to order and compare them with increasing confidence. It’s been brilliant to see the children tackling these challenges with such determination and growing independence.

In English, we’ve continued exploring our class text Star of Fear, Star of Hope. We’ve started reading the story and have been working on creating “speech sandwiches” to understand dialogue between characters. Alongside this, we’ve been developing our use of expanded noun phrases and choosing language for effect and impact. These skills will come in handy next week when we begin writing our own setting descriptions — I can’t wait to see what the children create!

In History, we’ve been learning about the causes of World War II. The children showed great curiosity and thoughtfulness as they explored different reasons and wrote their own reflections on why the war may have started.

In Art, we’ve been inspired by the work of graphic designer Louise Fili. We’ve started to explore the concept of typography and how design choices can communicate meaning. This will be a focus for us over the coming weeks as we delve further into graphic design.

As I’m not in class today, I’ve decided to save our weekly celebration of achievements until Monday — so keep an eye out for a special Achievements Blog to kick off next week!

Finally, I want to say a huge well done for the brilliant start to our reading journey in Blakemere. The engagement with the online reading log has been fantastic — keep it up! Remember, our weekly target is 4 reads, and you’re already showing how committed you are to reaching it.

Reminders for Next Week

  • PE is on Tuesday and Friday – please ensure kits are in school
  • Times Table Rock Stars – just 5 minutes a night makes a big difference
  • Spellings – please support your child with their weekly spellings
  • Reading log links will be sent out again on Monday. Keep an eye out for these and keep recording that reading. Let’s show the school how Blakemere do things!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone — I’m already looking forward to another exciting week ahead!
