Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 20.09.2024
Date: 22nd Sep 2024 @ 11:30am
Another successful week in Blakemere! The children are continuing to impress me with their attitude and drive to their work.
English
We have continued with our text, The Watertower by Gary Crew this week. We initially created a setting description for the watertower on Shooters Hill using the noun phrases we created during the previous week. Lots of lovely vocabulary was used during this task. We have also explored created complex sentences this week and being able to identify the main parts of these. Finally, on Thursday I shared some rumours with the children about the watertower from our book and then they were encouraged to write their own. There were so many great rumours written about the sinister happenings.
Maths
In Maths, this week, we have explored Roman Numerals. We have looked at changing between numbers and Roman Numerals and how to partition the numbers when looking at dates. We have also explored counting in sequences of 10, 100, 1000, 10,000, 100,000 from any number. The children worked hard at this but there it was sometimes tricky when the numbers crossed the boundaries.
RE
We are focusing on the non-religious world view of Humanism and exploring the beliefs and values that all Humanists hold. The children have already been able to confidently recall the information we have explored so far and used it this week to write an information paragraph about Humanism.
Science
We have continued to explore and look at the similarities and differences between living things this week and used our knowledge to create a classification key. The children were tasked with coming up with a question that would split their group of animals into two groups. They then had to take one of the groups and ask another question to try and split that group down further. It was lovely to see the differing ways the children had chosen to group their animals.
A huge well done to Alex for winning the raffle ticket prize this week and to Kobe, Frankie, Lexi-May, Arabella and Natalie for having their work selected for excellent examples. They will bring them home next Friday to share with you.
Finally, a huge well done to Harry for being selected as Blakemere’s Worker of the Week by his peers.
