Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 21.06.2024
Date: 23rd Jun 2024 @ 9:54am
Another busy week we have had in Blakemere and I cannot believe how fast it is all going.
English
The children have now completed their final piece of writing based on the text King Kong and I have been incredibly impressed with the work they have produced. They have worked exceptionally hard to produce a piece of writing which enables them to show case the skills they have learnt. For the next few weeks, we shall be spending time revisiting different skills using another text - Shakleton's Journey.
Maths
In Maths, we have continued to explore 3D shapes and their properties. We have also began investigating these shapes and what is similar and different about them. Why not ask you child to tell you something about a square-based pyramid?
RE
In RE, we have started to explore the world religion of Islam and we are going to be thinking about why the five pillars of Islam are important to Muslims. This week, the children were tasked with researching and producing a factfile all about the key information of th religion of Islam. We also started to identify some similarities and differences between the religions of Islam and Christianity.
DT - Food
We have also started our new DT topic this week which will focus on the children planning, designing, and making their own savoury muffins. We have begun by exploring what seasonality in food means and what foods are ripe in which season.
Science
The children have contonued to explore different living things and have began to group them based on their similarities and differences. See the images below.
.YEAR 6 Play
The Year 6 children have been working incredibly hard on their performance which is to be held on Thursday 18th July at 4:00pm. More information will follow shortly about tickets. Please contonue to support your child in learning their lines for script.
Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
Name a season.
What can you do at home?
- Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book and diary in school with them every day and having the correct PE kit in school. PE is on a Monday and Tuesday for Year 5 children and Tuesday for Year 6.
- Year 6 children need their swimming kit and goggles every Monday.
- Reading diaries are checked every Tuesday so it is imperative they are in school.
- Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed.
- Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps. Passwords can be found in your child's reading diary.
- Practise the list of spellings that are sent home.
- Year 6 children need to be learning their script and songs for their Leavers' Performance. All children need to be off script by the 26.06.2024.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
