🌟 Blakemere's Weekly Blog 🌟
It has been another busy and productive week in Blakemere, and I am incredibly proud of all the hard work the children have shown!
📖 English
In English this week, the children have completed their final piece of writing inspired by the ending of King Kong. They worked very thoughtfully, carefully considering the reader when choosing their vocabulary and sentence structures. It has been fantastic to see them applying the mastery keys we have been exploring, producing powerful and engaging pieces of writing.
🔢 Maths
In Maths, we have been focusing on ratio. The children have been using multiplication and division to find linked ratios and have developed a strong understanding that “for every” statements often refer to ratio. We have also started to explore how to share different amounts based on given ratios. The children have shown great perseverance with what is a challenging topic!
🏛️ History
This week in History, we explored the causes and effects of the decline of the salt industry in Nantwich. The children worked hard to place these reasons in order of importance and were encouraged to justify their thinking with evidence and reasoning.
We also began learning about the history of salt factories in Winsford, including why they were built along the River Weaver, how many there were, and how they produced salt. The children have started creating a flow chart to show the stages of salt production, which we will continue after half term.
🧠 My Happy Mind
As a school, we are continuing our work on the My Happy Mind programme, helping us understand how our brains work. This week, we learned about the three key parts of the brain:
- The hippocampus (stores our memories)
- The amygdala (keeps us safe)
- The prefrontal cortex (helps us make logical decisions and take action)
In Year 6, we are linking this learning to our upcoming transition to high school, supporting children in understanding and managing their thoughts and feelings.
🔬 Science
In Science, we explored irreversible changes through exciting experiments! We mixed vinegar and milk to create a new substance and also combined vinegar with bicarbonate of soda to create a fizzy reaction that overflowed the cup. The children loved seeing these chemical reactions in action and discussing why these changes cannot be reversed.
