🌟 Welcome Back – A Fantastic First Week! 🌟

It has been a joy to welcome the children back after the break, and we are incredibly proud of how positively they have returned to school. Throughout the week, the children have shown fantastic focus, determination and enthusiasm across all areas of learning. In so many ways, they have truly lived out our school’s vision:

“Let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:16) — through their hard work, kindness and willingness to give every task their best.

✍️ English

In English, we continued our exciting work based on King Kong. The children revisited the active and passive voice before confidently writing sentences using both. They then produced two thoughtful pieces of writing:

  • Writing from Ann’s point of view, describing her thoughts and feelings after being captured
  • Writing from a villager’s point of view, observing the dramatic ceremony

Across both pieces, the children were encouraged to showcase the writing features we have been mastering, including passive voice, speech, conjunctions, expanded noun phrases and adverbials. Many children really let their writing light shine, using ambitious language and carefully crafted sentence structure.

➕ Maths

In Maths, we explored quadrilaterals, identifying their properties and learning how to find missing angles. We then began our new measure unit, focusing on capacity. The children practised reading scales, converting between measurements and solving a range of reasoning problems. We also carried out some revision work, and it was great to see children approaching challenges with confidence and resilience.

🔬 Science

Our Science lessons focused on reversible and irreversible changes. The children impressed us with their scientific knowledge, clearly explaining how and why different materials change. Their explanations showed thoughtful reasoning and growing scientific vocabulary.

💛 KiVa

This week’s KiVa anti-bullying lesson led to some excellent discussion. We explored how to be supportive of someone who is being bullied and how we can clearly communicate that support. The children shared mature and compassionate ideas, letting their light shine by showing empathy and understanding for others.

🏊 Swimming

Our Year 6 children were fabulous at their first swimming session on Monday. It was wonderful to see them in the pool, enjoying themselves, showing bravery and having a go at every challenge they were given. A great start to the block!
