Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 25.04.2022

Date: 24th Apr 2022 @ 9:47am

What a great week we have had in Blakemere this week! The children returned to school after the holidays ready and willing to learn and this was a pleasure to see. We have achieved so much this week.

In English, we have continued with our new book - King Kong. We have explored using colons and semi-colons to write a list, explored synonyms and used prepositions within a description of a scene. Not only was this great for the children to explore and revise and variety of grammatical terms it also provided lots of opportunities for the children to apply the skills they have learnt into different types of writing. One piece of work that was particulary good this week was the children's list poems based on one of the images from the text. They had to create a poem named 'Thousands of Faces.' Within their poems they needed to describe the faces and why they would have felt like this. Lots of excellent vocabulary was used within this task. Some of which has made its way to our Wow Vocab wall.

In Maths, we spent some time revising ratio and proportion at the beginning of the week before moving on to angles. So far, we have explored the names of the different angles and used a song based on the YMCA to help us remember the names, we have estimated their measurements, ordered and compared them and moved on to measuring them using a protractor. On Friday, we measured lots of angles on our tables and worked as group to check the measurements and their names.

In RE, we explored the third Pillar of Islam - Zakah which focusing on giving and donating money. We explored and discussed the reasons for Zakah and then spent the rest of the lesson exploring the BIG Question 'Should it only be the Government who helps the poor?' Lots of great discussion was had here and it was brilliant to hear the children's ideas, thoughts and reasons.

On Friday afternoon, we took part in an activity for Earth Day. We explored the layers of rainforest and how rainforests are important to the world and the impact of deforestation. The children worked in partners to produce a poster which contained inforamtion about rainforests. It was lovely to see the different ways that the children presented this information.
