Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 26.01.2024

Date: 28th Jan 2024 @ 1:51pm

Another busy week within Blakemere where I feel that the children have achieved so much.

English

We are continuing to explore the text 'Can we save the tiger?' by Martin Jenkins as the driver for our work in English. This week, we created answers to questions that we have about the life of the tiger with the aim of including parenthesis (extra information) within our sentences. We then moved on to explore modal verbs and how these are used within sentences to show how possible or certain something is to happen. The week ended with us taking on the role of a Farmer and writing from their point of view regarding tigers hunting their animals. The children were tasked to include both modal verbs and complex sentences within their piece of writing.

Maths

We are coming towards the end of our unit of work on fractions and this week the children have been exploring multplying fractions by fractions and also by a whole number. We will soon move on to decimals and the children will begin to see the relationship between both fractions and decimals.

Science

On Friday, we explored and carried out an investigation which looked at how the voltage of a battery can impact the brightness of a bulb. The children made valid predictions and we then tested their thoughts. We also talked about the variables that would be included within our investigation.

Computing

In computing this week, the children worked in partners to produce their veery own website about their chosen endangered animal. They linked pages to their main home page and ensured there was lots of great information included. We also looked at the importance of using copyright free images.

Visit to Winsford Library

On Wednesday, we visited Winsford Library. The children me the library staff, explored the variety of books the library had on offer and spent some time looking at different texts. It was so lovely to see the children engaged with the library. The library staff explained that you can join the library for free by heading to the Cheshire West and Chester website and registering on their library page.

What can you do at home?

  • Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed.
  • Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
  • Practise the list of spellings that are sent home.
  • You may want to encourage your child to take a look in the SATS Practise and Revision section of Blakemere's class page. This is for Year 6 children only. If you do complete any of the tasks, please do show me what you ahave completed and achieved.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
