Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 28.03.2025
Date: 30th Mar 2025 @ 10:07am
How are we coming to the final week of the spring term in Blakemere? The weeks are truly flying by.
English
This week, in English, we have explored how to use a semi colon in our writing and how it can be used to replace a FANBOY (co-ordinating conjunction) within a sentence. We have also planned and written a letter to Spring from the Giant to ascertain why Spring doesn’t visit the garden anymore and what the Giant needs to do for Spring to return.
Maths
We have continued to explore angles this week in Maths. We have focused on finding missing angles around a point and how vertically opposite angles are always equal. We then moved on to recapping on the different types of triangles, their names and their properties, and then to exploring how we find missing angles in a triangle from using our knowledge of both triangles and angles.
DT
In DT, this week, we have looked at the different processes’ food goes through to make it safe to eat. The children then picked a food type and created a flow chart showing how the food goes from field to fork. Later in the week, the children also explored the nutrients that the body needs in order to function well.
PE
In PE, we have been completing lots of different outdoor activities which require the children to work in teams in order to complete the challenges effectively. On Friday, the children were presented with different mazes which they had to navigate around using maps. They had to work out the value of the route they were taking. We all had lots of fun on Friday afternoon. Take a look at some of the photographs below.
Well done
A huge well done this week to Phoebe for winning the raffle ticket prize and to Phoebe, Zac, Eva C, Quinn and Haley for having their work selected for Excellent Examples. They will bring this work home with them next Friday to share with you. Another well done to Tate and Harry for being selected as Blakemere’s Workers of the Week by their peers.
Year 6 SATS
On our class webpage, there is lots of information regarding the Year 6 SATS week, which begins Monday 12th May to Thursday 15th May 2025. More information about these will be sent out closer to the time along with information about our Year 6 breakfast club that week.
Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
Name three triangles.
What can you do at home?
• Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day.
• PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
• Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
• Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
• Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
