Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 28.06.2024
Date: 30th Jun 2024 @ 9:04am
How fast are the weeks going now? I can quite believe that we are moving into our final 3 weeks together as Blakemere class 2023-2024.
Design Technology
This week, we have spent some time focusing on our design technology unit all about cooking. We shall be working towards designing and making our own savoury muffins. This week the children have explored how food can be reared, caught and processed and what this means; we have looked at the different nutrients that the body needs and why we need them and the children then moved on to designing and planning the ingredients that they would like to include within their muffins. We shall be making these muffins the week beginning the 8th July.
Science
We have continued to explore living things this week in Science and we have continued to try and group them based on their similarities and differences but through the use of classification keys. The children need to think of a question that would have a yes or no answer and then sort the animals based on this. They would then continue to sort the animals by asking questions unti lthey were left with just a couple in each group. The children coped extremely well with what was a difficult task so well done!
History
We have explored the similarities and differences between the mining techniques in the past and present day at Winsford Salt mine and it was great to hear the children discussing and sharing their thoughts about the differences and why things have changed for the better.
Transition Days
Our Year 6 children will be out for different parts of the week on their transition days at High School next week and I would like to wish them lots of luck and I look forward to seeing them on the days that they are back with me.
Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
What are we making in DT?
What can you do at home?
- Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book and diary in school with them every day and having the correct PE kit in school. PE is on a Monday and Tuesday for Year 5 children and Tuesday for Year 6.
- Year 6 children need their swimming kit and goggles every Monday.
- Reading diaries are checked every Tuesday so it is imperative they are in school.
- Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed.
- Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps. Passwords can be found in your child's reading diary.
- Practise the list of spellings that are sent home.
- Continue to practise the
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
