Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 29.11.2024
Date: 1st Dec 2024 @ 10:05am
The weeks seem to be flying by now and I can’t quite believe that we are heading into December.
English
This week, we have planned and written our own poems based on the sea using Anne Marie Lindon’s Poem ‘Sounds of the Sea’ as a model. The children have used some excellent vocabulary and a variety of poetic features to describe the sea, which was wonderful to read.
Maths
This week in Maths we have explored BIDMAS and the order of operations. The children were introduced to the BIDMAS squad who were there to help them with solving the different parts of calculations in the correct order. They were challenged to complete different calculations, and everyone did a super job. Why not ask your child about the BIDMAS squad and what the letters stand for?
DT
This week we built a prototype for our cam toy and tested the movement of different cams. We found that our prototype wasn’t fully successful and problem-solved and discussed what we could do to improve it for when we make our final design.
Christmas
We have started to rehearse our Christmas song, and the Year 6 children have been given their script for narrating the story. They have made a fabulous start.
Well done
A huge well done this week to Joshua for winning the raffle ticket prize and to Franklin, Zak, Natalie and Haley for having their work selected for Excellent Examples. They will bring this work home with them next Friday to share with you. This week, the first Bronze Reading Star badges were given out. Well done to Joshua and Natalie for receiving theirs. Finally, a huge well done to Harry and Zac for being selected as Worker of the Week in Blakemere by their peers.
Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
What does BIDMAS stand for?
What can you do at home?
• Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day.
• PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
• Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
• Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
• Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. We will be continuing with the words sent out last week and will have the spelling check for these on Monday 2nd December. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
