Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 31.01.2025
Date: 2nd Feb 2025 @ 9:32am
The weeks continue to fly by here in Blakemere. I have been particularly impressed this week with everything that the children have achieved.
English
This week, we have written our letters to Barack Obama explaining our thoughts and opinions about his book, Of Thee I Sing, and the inspirational people that he had written about. The letters were excellent and I was very impressed with the level of independence towards their writing in this task. Towards the end of the week, we explored the features of a magazine article as this will be what we will be writing next week.
Maths
We have started to explore decimals and their relationship to fractions. We have thought about both tenths and hundredths and the place value of decimal numbers with up to two decimal places.
Science
This week we explored how we can learn about different living things and how they have evolved and adapted to their environment throughout time by exploring fossils. We looked at fossils and a living relative and discussed the similarities and differences.
RE
In RE, we have continued to explore how God can be described as Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent. We explored different verses from the Bible and tried to identify which one of these descriptions of the God the Bible verse was referring to.
Computing
This week, we began to explore a micro:bit and the programming environment required to make our micro:bit work. The children followed a tutorial online for how to program their micro:bit to make a flashing heart, which they achieved successfully. We will continue to explore and program this mini computer next week.
Library Visit
On Wednesday, we visited Winsford Library. Whilst there, the children took part in a quiz where they found different books, information and activities that the library deliver. They had the opportunity to sit and read different texts and visit the younger adult section. The library is such a fabulous resource for our children. I have included the link here if you would like to join the library.

Well done
A huge well done this week to Lexi-May for winning the raffle ticket prize and to Lexi-May, Haley, Franklin and Zac for having their work selected for Excellent Examples. They will bring this work home with them next Friday to share with you. We are very close to some of our class receiving their Bronze Reading Badge over the next couple of weeks so keep reading. Another well done to Harry for being selected as Blakemere’s Worker of the Week by his peers.
Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
What was the name of the tiny computer we explored in computing?
What can you do at home?
• Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day.
• PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
• Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
• Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
• Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
